Our Barry makes his stage debut in panto

Our Barry is a popular chap— stepping into fun family pantomime, The Orange Cone Road, performed by Katikati Theatre over fivedays last week.

Dorothy fromKansas­wasfaced with a parking ticket for illegal freedom camping.

Barry the statue (played by by Glen Balneaves) and Dizzy the lizard cameto her aid travelling the Orange Cone Road on theirwayto Barking MadCorner to ask theWizard of BOP, Gary Webspinner, if he could grant their wishes. Barry wanted a bypass, Dizzy fromOmokor­oa would like a roundabout andDorothy hoped she could deal with her parking fine.

The journeywas fun as they met manycolour­ful characters along the way.

The successful pantowas directed by Julie Thomaswhoc­owrote the play with Francis Young andDi Logan. Julie says shewas delighted with the show.

“Audience feedback has been great, manysaid it wasthe best laugh they havehad in a long time.

“The four children playing road cones did such a good job, the two youngest, DeclanLowa­nd Luka Stove, were making their stage debut.”

For Glen Balneavesw­hoplayed Barry, thiswas his first production for Katikati Theatre as hewas returning to the stage having enjoyeddra­ma at school.
