Hymns rival tui at Tanners

Concert and picnic a festive tradition

The twilight hour, whentui normally sing, wasinstead filled with the sound of Christmas music at Tanners Point Reserve on Saturday, November28.

That’swhenthe Katikati Concert Band played traditiona­l festive songs and hymnswhile locals enjoyed a barbecue and shared picnic under the shade of the reserve’s mature trees. Later they joined the band to sing a medley of songs bringing to an end an evening of music and friendship which hasbecome an annual seasonal fixture of the harboursid­e community.

The eveningwas­organised by the Tanners Point Ratepayers and Residents Associatio­n committee and it wasbandmem­bersand Tanners residents Mick and Susie Goodallwho­arranged for the band to play. Mike Howell and MurrayShaw mannedthe barbecues, Alan Nicolson collected themoney andRodCame­ron, associatio­n chair, welcomed everyone.
