Veterans— Still basking in the glow of Waihi’s success in the recent Champion of Champions, the Vets completed thewish list with a resounding win at the Waikato Veterans’ Associatio­n Coromandel Shield final played at Te Aroha on Monday, November23. Rodger Bagshaw, Allen Smith, Allen Sarjant, John Giffney, Ken Purcell and Earle White, went in to the sixth and final roundwith a 20-point aggregate lead over Tahuna andHauraki, the only two teamswith a possible chance of catching them.

In the final tally, Waihi held their lead to win the Shield with 207 points, Tahuna in second place with 189, and Hauraki in third place with 184. Waihi’s team were ably supported by faithful followers Jock Stronach, Maurice Joyce, Jim Evans andTim Parish. Well done team— thanks to

your efforts the Coromandel Shield will decorate Waihi’s walls for the second time inthree years.

Unfortunat­ely it wasthe writer’s error, her correct score being 88 off the stick. Neverthele­ss, itwasone of those never-to-be-forgottend­ream days when everything goes well. I apologise for any embarrassm­ent or inconvenie­nce.
