Cupcakes for cash to raise funds for SPCA

- By MERANIA KARAURIA

SPCA’S Cupcake Day is Monday 6 and you’re invited to register online to bake cupcakes to help animals around the country and raise $320,000.

All proceeds from Cupcake Day will go toward protecting abused, neglected, injured and abandoned animals.

The sweet or savoury treat annual fundraiser was launched a decade ago with $2.3 million raised to help house and rehome nearly half a million furry friends.

Each year the SPCA offers love, care and shelter to over 45,000 animals.

SPCA’s chief executive Andrea Midgen says our animals don’t have a voice to defend themselves and it’s our duty to do all that we can to protect them.

“Without the help of the public we wouldn’t be able to provide shelter, care and vet treatment for the 45,000 animals that come through our doors each year.

“To everyone who will bake or buy cupcakes in the next two weeks, we want to say thank you. As well as saving lives, your donations will be used to care for the animals in our shelters as they wait to find their forever home.”

It’s easy to get involved. You can register to bake and sell as an individual, team or school at www.spcacupcakeday.co.nz/

After registering, you’ll receive plenty of ideas, recipes, inspiration and tips to make your event special. Remember to share photos of your cupcakes on the SPCA’s Facebook page at @RoyalNZSPCA, on Instagram at @spcanz and via Twitter using the hashtag #SPCACupcakeDay

For the second year, The Coffee Club is supporting the SPCA as Cupcake Day’s major sponsor. In 2017 they raised $30,000 and they aim to do the same again this year by selling cupcakes in their stores nationwide.
