Fes­ti­val of dance

The 2018 Palmer­ston North dance com­pe­ti­tions open at the Re­gent on Broad­way next week­end.

Palmer­ston North Dance As­so­ci­a­tion (PNDA) pres­i­dent Maryanne Mechen said the fes­ti­val opens on Septem­ber 28 with the gala event on Mon­day Oc­to­ber 1.

“Come and en­joy the many dif­fer­ent dance styles on show fea­tur­ing clas­si­cal bal­let, jazz, con­tem­po­rary, hip-hop and tap.

“We have dancers from 12 dance schools in the fes­ti­val.

“This year’s con­venor is Michelle Robin­son who is the dance teacher rep­re­sen­ta­tive on the com­mit­tee who li­aises with all the dance schools for the fes­ti­val.”

Maryanne says the com­pe­ti­tion cov­ers both solo and group classes and dancers aged from un­der six years to adults are from across the North Is­land. Dancers must do four dances each.

“Our pa­tron Sir Jon Trim­mer will be at­tend­ing and avail­able to speak with those who come to the fes­ti­val.”

The gala event will fea­ture ju­nior, in­ter­me­di­ate and se­nior bal­let solo cham­pi­onships, in­clud­ing guest artists.

There will be three ses­sions daily. Adults are $5, chil­dren $3 and se­nior cit­i­zen passes avail­able with a free ses­sion.
