Speedway season races into action

-

Another speedway season opens on Saturday night at the Robertson Holden International Speedway in Palmerston North.

There’s plenty on offer for Sprintcar fans with the Grand Prix early in the season on November 19, followed by the North Island Champs on January 12, 2019. Sandwiched in between is the popular International Series where American stars Shane Stewart and Kyle Hirst battle the best drivers that New Zealand has to offer. The week-long series visits Western Springs and Baypark before heading south to Palmerston North on Thursday, December 6.

The other drawcards before the holiday season will be the Robin Pratt Memorial on October 27 which supplies plenty of stockcar action, followed by the fireworks night and ramp demolition derby a week later. The Superstock Global Challenge has been moved forward to December 15, with Christian Hermansen on home soil looking to obtain a rare three-peat at the New Zealand Minisprint Champs on December 27.

Dominating the calendar in the new year is the massively popular Enzed superstock teams champs on February 2 and 3. With tickets selling fast, the Central Energy Trust Arena will be near capacity once again for a big weekend in New Zealand motorsport. Palmerston North Panthers were back on top last season, but the various challengers will be out to steal their glory.

A fortnight later the Rolling Thunder Series hits town with a show containing the best midgets, sprintcars and super saloons in the land. Easter weekend features the Peter Barry Memorial derby teams champs, with last season’s record number of 24 teams ready to bend the metal.

Things wind up after a 19-night calendar on April 27. You can stay in touch with any updates at www.pnspeedway.co.nz.
