Trees downed
The Palmerston North City Council emergency arborist and Higgins contractors were busy clearing up several felled trees and broken branches brought down by high winds across the city. They removed a large pine tree from near the intersection of Atawhai Road and Tennant Drive at 9am on Sunday which had been blocking the cycle and road lane on the southern off-ramp. Another large tree on a private property fell through a fence on the corner of Ward and Featherston Sts just after 9am. In Anderson Street, a large tree needed to be removed about 1pm. The contractors also took away fallen branches from Caroline Crescent and Gillespies Line around midday. Later in the afternoon trees fell victim to the wind in Amberley Ave and in Gladys Place in Kelvin Grove. A large road sign was blown off its supporting poles in Tremaine Avenue between 1pm and 2pm. A signage crew was expected to replace it on Monday morning.
