River focus for search

- Fairfax NZ

Teams are continuing their search for Upper Hutt woman Mary Berrington, and are now focusing their efforts on the Hutt River.

More than 50 people, including police, search and rescue and community volunteers, have completed extensive searches in the Upper Hutt area since the 62-yearold was reported missing on Wednesday.

Police said a search for items of interest in and around the Hutt River was done yesterday.

Berrington has bipolar disorder and may be in an anxious state.

LANDSAR, Upper Hutt Community Rescue and police search teams visited properties in the suburbs surrounding Berrington’s home which they could not reach on Saturday.

Sergeant Anthony Harmer said on Saturday that while the search remained positive, police were starting to consider scaling back efforts.

Berrington has not been seen since Tuesday night, although there have been a few unconfirmed sightings since then.
