Ob-marist pip Rams with late penalty goal

A last-minute penalty secured Old Boys-marist the senior 2 club rugby title when they beat Varsity 13-11 at the Arena on Saturday.

Varsity kicked two penalties to be leading 6-0, but Ob-marist scored under the sticks to nudge ahead 7-6, then kicked a penalty to lead 10-6 at halftime.

In the second half Arjun Singh scored in the corner to put the Rams in front 11-10.

In the dying minutes the Rams gave away a penalty in their own 22 and Jordan Clarke slotted a comfortabl­e penalty to give Obmarist the Houlihan Cup win. In the senior 2 cup final,

scored a late try to beat 24-19.

Ashhurst missed a penalty which would have given them the lead, before Bunnythorp­e knocked over a penalty with two minutes to go

The win gives Bunnythorp­e the right to move up to senior 2 if they choose.
