Wilkinson close to PGA Tour card
Tim Wilkinson has given himself a chance to secure his PGA Tour card for next season during the Wyndham Championship.
The top 125 players in the Fedexcup points table after the Wydnham Championship will have secured their PGA Tour cards for next season. Heading into the week Wilkinson was 139th, 14 spots outside the qualification places.
But after a third round six-under 64 at Sedgefield Country Club, Wilkinson has move nine places to 130th in the standings, within striking distance of the top 125.
Wilkinson was four-under after two rounds, but his steady improvement throughout the tournament continued as he rolled home seven birdies, mixed with a solitary bogey.
After going three under on the first nine, with birdies at five, seven and nine, Wilkinson had a hot streak on the back nine in the aftermath of a disappointing bogey on the par three 12th.
Wilkinson three putted on 12, but then went on a scoring blitz to birding the following four holes with his putting particularly impressive.
He’ll have to do it all again in the final round, with a top-10 placing giving him a chance at seizing a top125 place. Much may hinge on the performances of those around him.
Kyle Stanley has moved into the top-125 after three rounds, going from 127th to 116th as he sits 10-under, while Shawn Stefani is now 125th, moving up eight places at eight-under par.
