Rojas’ Melbourne return confirmed
Marco Rojas has spent all of two days as a free agent after his widely-speculated return to the A-league was confirmed.
The 24-year-old former A-league player of the year signed a two-year deal with Melbourne Victory on Thursday, the club he left three years ago to join VFB Stuttgart.
Rojas had little gametime for the German club and had his contact terminated by mutual consent on Tuesday.
Victory coach Kevin Muscat was understandably happy with the signing.
‘‘This is another significant signing for our club as we continue to prepare for the new A-league season,’’ he said.
‘‘We all know the quality Marco possesses. We’re excited to see him return to Victory and I’m sure our fans will welcome him back.’’
Rojas was born in Hamilton and signed his first A-league contract with the Wellington Phoenix in 2009, where he played for two seasons.
He then crossed to Victory, making 23 appearances in his debut season before setting the league alight during the 2012/13 campaign.
But his time at Stuttgart was a frustrating one.
He broke his foot soon after arriving and missed much of his first season there, before loan moves to Greuther Furth (Germany) and FC Thun (Switzerland) the next two seasons, with the latter move yielding 37 appearances and four goals.
