Adele: Cheapest hotel room $255

- SUSAN EDMUNDS

If you’ve managed to score tickets to one of the March Adele concerts, be warned: Your biggest expense may be still to come.

Tickets for the singer’s three shows at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium in March sold out within hours on Thursday. Prices ranged from $99 to more than $700.

But if you’re travelling to the show from outside Auckland, you’ll have to act fast if you want somewhere to stay in the city.

Hotels in Auckland had a rush of bookings – Booking.com shows the Stamford Plaza sold out for the March 23 show after being booked 41 times by 3.30pm on Thursday.

On Expedia, the cheapest hotel available for that concert was the Allenby Park Hotel in south Auckland, which was charging $255 a night.

The Langham had rooms for $669 for the night and many other hotels had already sold out, including the Novotel in Ellerslie, Sofitel at the Viaduct and Mercure in downtown Auckland.

Hospitality NZ spokeswoman Rachael Shadbolt said it was an issue of supply and demand.

‘‘March is now very much part of the high season so Auckland will be busy with visitors, cruise ship visitors, as well as corporates being well and truly back to work and travelling again.’’

She said Auckland’s hotels had an occupancy rate of 86 per cent in the year ended October. ‘‘This doesn’t leave a lot of room for extra capacity when a major headline act like Adele hits town.’’
