Dyason puts on classy show despite the rain

Most games of club softball were played on Saturday despite the rain, some of them in very trying conditions, but Dodgers pitcher Kelly Dyason still managed to put on a masterclas­s.

In a pitcher-dominated game against Blue Sox, Dyason struck out 11 of the 17 Blue Sox batters he faced, giving up no safe hits and not allowing Blue Sox to score any runs.

Dyason also dominated with the bat with three hits from three turns at bat as Dodgers won 9-0.

10-4. Huia scored one run in the first inning and then no more runs were scored by either team until the fifth inning.

Huia then strung six hits together to score nine runs and Linton could only manage four runs by the end of the game.

Dean Rauhihi of Huia Warriors had three hits from four turns at bat. The second game for

against was abandoned due to heavy rain.

Huia Chiefs played Panthers. Panthers could not handle the pitching of Huia’s Manaaki Mita who struck out 15 Panthers batters, only giving up 2 safe hits. Cameron Scott was Chiefs best batter with two hits from three turns at bat.

With the rain clearing, the second feature game was the best of the day, where

edged the Feilding Crazy Horses 2-1.

either team until the sixth inning when, aided by three walks, Linton scored one run.

At the top of the seventh and last inning, Crazy Horses tied the game up, scoring one run of their own.

At the bottom of the seventh, with one runner on base, Issac Glass hit the ball safely to right field and Dylan Kairau came home to win the game for Linton. In the early women’s game,

pushed all the way, but lost 9-7. Young Ones made a good start, scoring four runs in the first turn at bat and Tigers replied with seven.

No more runs were scored until the third inning, when Young Ones scored three more runs to tie the game 7-all.

Huia Tigers were made to work hard and in their last turn at bat and scored two runs to win the game.

Shannon Simpson was Huia’s best batter with a two-base hit and scoring two runs batted in.

In the only other women’s game was between beat 11-4.

The score at the bottom of the second inning was 2-1 to Feilding, but in the third inning the Linton batters put bat to ball and with seven safe hits and scored nine runs.

Feilding had no answer, managing only two runs.

Rebecca Dymock was Linton’s best batter with two hits from two turns at bat.

The Central region under17 boys and girls’ tournament was on Sunday, but the competitio­n was abandoned just after lunch when rain set in.

Most teams got a couple of games in.
