Appeal for information to crack cases
A knife-wielding armed robber who threatened a Palmerston North petrol station worker remains on the loose.
The robbery at the BP service station on Main St happened at 9.20pm on Sunday – the second time it’s been robbed in the past six months.
Out of five similar robberies in the city in that time, only one arrest has been made, with police needing more information from the public to catch the bandits responsible.
On July 28, The Butt Bucket in Palmerston North was allegedly robbed at knifepoint. Jonathon Edward James Moore, 24, has pleaded not guilty to aggravated robbery.
The Albert Sports Bar in Palmerston North was robbed at gunpoint on August 6, with staff members working at the time shaken by the incident.
A police spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing and officers were looking for a European man, about 182 centimetres tall, of thin to medium build.
Two days later, on August 8, two men wearing balaclavas robbed Xtra Cash in Palmerston North. One was armed with a knife and the other with a blunt object.
The spokeswoman said police had closed this case pending further information and the victim had been notified.
Another case police need more information about is the robbery of the Langley Ave Mini Mart in Milson.
It was stormed by an armed assailant, just before 1.30pm on October 15.
The robber demanded money and cigarettes, before fleeing on foot down Catlins Cres.
An arrest was yet to be made and the spokeswoman said the victims had been advised there was little in the way of leads for the investigation, but it was still continuing.
At the recent robbery of the BP service station, Detective Sergeant Johnny Oram said tobacco pouches and cash were taken before the man ran out on to Main St.
The robber is described as a Caucasian man, about 180 centimetres tall and of athletic build.
