Store apologises for profanity on products

-

Australian stationery company Typo is being blasted by shoppers for a range of products that display the f-word.

The brand, which has stores across New Zealand and is owned by Cotton On, is selling the products, which includes notebooks and pencil cases, online and in stores.

Its New Zealand online store features notebooks with ‘‘F... It, Let’s Disco’’, ‘‘Feminist as F..k’’ and ‘‘Shut the f..k up about your stupid diet’’.

According to the Herald Sun, Typo’s website had been promoting an uncensored ‘‘Zero F..ks’’ candle, a ‘‘F..k Yeah’’ sign and ‘‘F..k It, Let’s Disco’’ notebook.

The newspaper reported the company had apologised and was conducting an audit of all its stores.

The company also said products featuring the profanity should be censored.

Australian woman Bec Martin told the Herald Sun she found it ‘‘highly inappropriate’’ that this sort of language was in full view of young children.

‘‘They shouldn’t be subjected to this kind of disgusting language right in their face in the middle of the store. There was no warning,’’ she said.

She said she had also overheard a young child asking her mother what the f-word meant, the Herald Sun reported.

Not everyone objected to the products though and several Typo fans showed support for the items online.

A Typo spokesperson told the Herald Sun that the retailer realised its customers fell either side of its target audience of 18 to 35 year olds.

‘‘The product in question should have been censored and we are taking steps to ensure this takes place immediately.’’

They also said they would make changes to make the products less prominent in the stores.
