Security lifts for Mr & Mrs Mccaw

- MARTIN VAN BEYNEN

Richie Mccaw and Gemma Flynn have shared their first photograph together as husband and wife.

The newly-married couple posed for the photo in front of Lake Wanaka after exchanging nuptials on Saturday.

‘‘Awesome to wake up on our first day as Mr and Mrs Mccaw,’’ Richie said, while Gemma shared the same image with the words: ‘‘Our first day as Mr & Mrs Mccaw’’.

Mccaw and Flynn married in front of more than 100 guests at the closely guarded wedding in Wanaka. Security guards remained on duty at The Olive Grove as the younger party guests danced to loud music until at least midnight.

The All Black legend and his Olympian hockey player bride tied the knot about 3pm on Saturday at the Olive Grove wedding venue on the shores of Lake Wanaka.

Flynn looked elegant in a sleek white satin dress with hair loosely drawn back in a chignon bun, adorned with a veil.

She carried a bunch of white and light pink roses, matching the blush of the floaty bridesmaids dresses.

Mccaw was handsome in a black suit and a bow tie with an arrangement of white flowers in his lapel.

The couple had three bridesmaids and three groomsmen between them.

Wanaka turned on a blustery, overcast day but after the ceremony the sun came out and the wind died down for a pleasant evening.

A team of about 20 security guards surrounded the venue in presidential-type security and ensured the media were denied any free shots of the couple or their guests.

The guest list remains secret but about 80 guests boarded buses at quiet locations in Wanaka and were driven to the venue.
