Linton hang on to beat Feilding

Linton survived a comeback from Feilding SPC to win 14-9 in the latest round of the women’s club softball competitio­n at Colquhoun Park on Saturday.

This was a tight game with Linton ahead 8-1 at the bottom of the fourth inning, but Feilding scored five runs in the fifth to take the score to 8-7.

Linton scored six more runs in the next two innings, with Feilding only able to add another two, so Linton won 14-9.

Feilding’s Jessica Welford was Feilding’s best batter with two hits from four turns at bat.

For Linton Gina O’reilly had three hits from four turns at bat.

could not match a rampant team, with Aces thumping them 18-1.

No hits were given up by Bramac’s pitcher Mary Ireland and Deana Ratahi was Bramac’s best batter with two hits from two turns at bat.

In the early game, were too good for winning 8-6. Tigers got off to a good start scoring seven runs in the first three innings and Young Ones had no answer.

In the fourth inning Young Ones strung five hits together to score six runs. Huia had to work hard and they scored one more run before the end to win the game.

Huia’s Karla Henson was their best with a great catch in right field and good batting.

Michaela Hughes and Ariana Taylor of Young Ones batted .1000.

In the first premier men’s competitio­n, beat

6-2. It was a close game for three innings, with the score 2-1 to Chiefs.

But in the fourth inning, Panthers strung four hits together to score five runs, taking their score to six.

No further runs were added by either team and the Panthers won.

Wayne Norman was Chiefs’ best batter with two hits from two turns at bat.

Jacob Aull was Panthers’ best with two hits from three turns at bat.

In the first feature games thrashed

13-1. Feilding had no answer to the army boys and only scored one run. Linton had some powerful batting and with 13 safe hits. Teao Mulligan was Linton’s top batter with three hits from four turns at bat. In the second feature game got off to a flier against and Dodgers won 8-1. Dodgers scored eight runs in the first three innings, while Blue Sox were unable to handle the pitching of Kelly Dyason, who faced 17 batters, striking out 14.

Blue Sox’s Bryan Taiaroa recorded their only safe hit.

For Dodgers Spencer Lowe was their best batter with two hits from two turns at bat.

Cowboys scored six runs in the first inning, including two home runs, one from Shaun Mahoney and the second from Tyrone Pike.

In the second inning, Blue Sox scored five runs, taking the score to 6-5 Cowboys.

It was a tight game from there on, with the scores close until the fourth inning, when Cowboys piled on a further 10 runs.

Blue Sox added seven of their own, but time was up and Cowboys won.

Kris Tronson and Marcus Watson were Cowboys’ best batters with three hits from four turns at bat.

In the other game, beat 19-12.

Linton got off to a good start scoring eight runs in the first three innings and Top Guns could only manage five.

In the fifth inning, Linton scored a massive 11 runs before Feilding scored seven of their own before the game finished.
