Tiramisu and Tarte aux Fraise

-

Alexandre Patisserie & Chocolaterie, Coleman Mall

Coffee, cream filling and a sweet sponge made into a perfectly shaped slice and covered in a thin layer of white chocolate can be found at this bustling French cafe.

The beautiful crafted tiramisu and the tarte aux fraise – strawberry tart – are smaller dessert options that go hand in hand with an afternoon coffee.

Whole strawberries sit on a thin layer of custard and a buttery crust, which adds crunch to the fresh and fruity treat.

The tiramisu has a subtle coffee taste and a soft filling that you can easily dip your fork or just sink your teeth into.

These refined desserts are about $6 each and make the perfect treat if you’re feeling like something special.

Black sticky rice pudding and coconut jelly

Saigon Corner, Princess St, Palmerston North

Both of these gluten and dairy free options are perfect if you have less of a sweet tooth.

The jelly is made with coconut water, a touch of sugar and gelatine.

It’s refreshing and light and once the jelly is gone you’re left to scrape the sweet coconut flesh from the sides of the naturally-made bowl.

The black sticky rice pudding has added flavour from black beans and is sweetened with a touch of coconut sugar and coconut milk.

Desserts change weekly and vary from $5 to $7.50.
