Euphoria has Queensland campaign in sights

- NZ Racing Desk

Rachael Frost has completely turned her training fortunes around.

The Otaki horsewoman endured a nightmare 2015-16 season when she went winless from 51 starters, but this season has seen a complete reversal.

Frost is now sitting on a personal best tally of 10 victories and has plans in place for the talented Euphoria to head to Brisbane later in the year.

‘‘All going well we would like to take her to Queensland for a race like the Gold Coast Guineas and then hopefully a programme toward the Tatts Tiara,’’ she said.

The Group III Gold Coast Guineas will be run over 1200 metres on May 6 and the Group I Tatts Tiara is at Eagle Farm on June 24.

Euphoria finished fourth on debut in the Listed O’leary’s Fillies’ Stakes at Wanganui before she won her following start at Tauherenikau.

That sent the Rip Van Winkle filly on a southern path towards the New Zealand 1000 Guineas but injury ended her campaign following success at the expense of the stakes winner Zigwig at Motukarara.

‘‘She went sore and once she got home the scintigraphy tests showed she had a stress fracture in a back leg,’’ Frost said.

Euphoria is now back in work following a lengthy spell.

‘‘She’s had a quiet gallop and she’ll have a jump-out or a trial in the coming weeks,’’ Frost said.

‘‘She’s a big girl now and she’s doing very well.

‘‘We might look at the threeyear-old race at Te Rapa for her at the end of April.’’

The Group III Cambridge Breeders Stakes is the race Frost has in mind for her return.
