College women shine in qualifying matches
The penultimate round of qualifying games of the women’s club hockey competition before it splits back into two divisions produced predictable results.
In pool A College A won 4-0 over High School Hockey Club Evergreens.
Players called in from the development side ensured a reshuffled College side stamped their game plan on the match. Evergreens never gave up, competing for territory and possession. In Whanganui,
drew 2-all. In pool B, a hat-trick by Helen France and a double by Carla Jones inspired a rejigged
to a 8-0 win over in their club derby, which was a good tussle.
HSHC B fought to the end with strong midfield players Kea Keedle and Courtney Potaka playing well.
kept up their 100 per cent record with a 5-0 win over
Wanganui College B Levin. Massey B School Hockey Club A HSHC B
and
High
College came out firing, with chances created and went astray as Levin competed in the opening forays, with the game evening out somewhat early on. Rose Manners in goal for Levin kept College at bay for most of the half.
College were eventually on target through solid shots by Bryonie Phillips, leading by 2-0 at halftime.
College dominated for much of the second spell, adding goals by Tulin Pritchard, Bailey Rutter and Gracen Keyes-kumeroa.
Amy Johns had a standout match for Levin.
In pool C, cemented their lead in the pool with a 11-0 win over
Marist competed well with Massey struggling initially to implant their game plan.
The game opened up after the first goal was scored near the quarter hour mark, with goals then coming at regular intervals.
However Marist never gave up and persevered. They created moments to score off penalty corners that went awry.
Inspired by hat-tricks to Jasmine Mckay and Tiana Kotua, with a double by Ema Mckay,
ran away with a 11-1 win over
Massey A Marist. College Social. Athletic
Athletic commanded the midfield and once Ema Mckay touched in her first goal, then they came regularly for Athletic.
Jess Thompson got a consolation goal College Social.
There was no premier men’s games with a scheduled break due to player commitments to the Central under-18 and under-21 teams.
In the premier reserve grade the top four placings were sorted out. In an absorbing, fast-flowing early game edged rivals
1-0 with the only goal a deflection by Tom Mckay in the first half.
A hat-trick by Stephen Pope and a double by Jonah Hodren inspired a 5-3 win for over
Massey A Marton. College Marist
Both teams were intent on attack, trading scoring chances and Marist were up by three before Marton got one back by halftime.
The pulsing flow of the match continued with Marist grabbing an early goal that stung Marton.
Marton crawled back to 4-3 with goals to Nic Davey and Todd Sutton. Marist clinched the result late before time. In the late match,
won 7-0 over
Reserves School Hockey Club B. Massey High
Massey commanded the match, gaining 80 per cent of the territory and possession. HSHC never gave up and defended strongly, but any possession they had was quickly quashed by a rampant Massey side.
