Desano, Constant Barrage ones to follow

- STEWART MCGRAIL

Desano and Constant Barrage look a likely pair to follow judging on their efforts at the Foxton trials on Tuesday.

They contested a 1200m open catchweight heat and third home was Itsallbelt, who strung together a series of wins before being spelled during the summer.

Desano, a three year old filly by Thano from the useful racemare Yo Deseo, won her maiden from Karen Zimmerman’s Otaki stables.

However when Zimmerman decided to relocate to Byerley Park, near Pukekohe, her connections decided to keep her for racing in Central Districts and therefore joined Fraser Aurett at Marton.

Desano was one of a number of horses that also joined up with Aurett and what may be Zimmerman’s loss, is now obviously Aurett’s gain.

Constant Barrage was a first-up winner for Levin’s Geoff Haigh and was also spelled following his second run, which produced a fourth placing.

He is a full brother to the now Sydney-based Broadside, whose owner decided to sell after good form also from Haigh’s stable.

Itsallbelt is a seven year old who took time to ‘strike her hopples’ for owners Kevin and Kathleen Gray, and also impressed in the same trial ahead of the Tavistock mare Downton Abbey.

Others to shape well at Foxton were Dark Princess a Cape Blanco filly with Jeff Lynds and Clermont who is trained by Jack Scott.

Wanganui galloper Teddy Wonder, who was put on a warning after a dismal run in his debut at Wanganui, gained an immediate reprieve by winning an 800m trial.

But the same cannot be said of the richly bred Sainted Pearl, who again showed a dislike for the barrier and will be taken home by owner trainer Nigel Aurett for further education.
