Fast times for Manawatu sprinters

-

The second winter track series meeting was in Masterton last Sunday and although entries would appear to be disappointing, there appeared to be a good turnout of Palmerston North athletes.

Zac Topping was the best of the sprinters, winning the 60m in 7.18s from Jordan Peters in 7.51s. Topping also won the 200m in 22.45s.

Corrina Minko was the best of the women’s sprinters, winning the 60m in 8.15s from Pavinee Watson in 8.67s.

Peters and Minko are established long jump exponents and it was surprising to see them both suffer defeats in their specialist events.

Peters jumped 6.71m, being bettered by Wellington’s Brendon Barrett’s 6.73m jump, while Minko had her 5.50m best bettered by Anna Thomson’s 5.64m.

These are out-of-season competition results and nothing for the athletes to be too concerned about.

Liam Woolford is building towards the world double decathlon championships and he won the discus with a 30.52m throw.

Some good clearances in the high jump had Ranae Saville winning the women’s event with a 1.55m clearance, with Courtney Trow clearing 1.53m.

Jacob Aomere Poole cleared 1.85m to win the men’s event,

Jack Lewer was the best of the throwers, winning the shot put with his 11.20m put. Jake Jackson-grammer won the 3000m.

The Athletics Manawatu-wanganui cross-country championships were in Wanganui on Saturday, with local athletes prominent in the results.

Palmerston North club reports Kyla Gunn was the G13 winner, Kara Macdermid as the senor women’s titleholder and Jake Jackson-grammer as the first finisher in the men’s event, but competing as a visitor, allowing the title to go to David Lovelock.

Sian Cass won the masters women’s 50 title. Noah Macdermid was second in the M18 race.

The only information I have from the Feilding Moa team is what I can find attached to Facebook photos, so apologies for any missed results.

Hayley Cornwall won the G11 race, Bella Ives the G15, Rueben Duker the B13 race and Liam Wall the B15 race.

Skye Burena was second in the G13 race.
