- GEORGE HEAGNEY

Palmerston North Boys’ High School carried on their merry way at the top of the club basketball competition.

The unbeaten Boys’ High team beat Mumba Stags 68-52 in the latest round at the Arena on Wednesday night to remain well clear at the top of the table.

That’s Us beat Slow Break 73-63.

Manukura’s good form continued as they beat Mumba Bucks 84-71.

Unity thrashed the Ohakea Pirates 130-34, but Ohakea had players away at a defence force tournament.

Whanganui Hawkes had the bye.

There was only one game in the women’s competition, where Manukura beat Linton 82-56. Linton also had a couple of players away at a defence force tournament.

Whanganui team The Unknown defaulted to the Mumba Hinds because they couldn’t get a team together.

Palmerston North Girls’ High School had the bye.

There is one more round of the regular season next week, then the first round of the playoffs on August 30, before the competition takes a week off while the secondary schools premiership qualifiers are on in Palmerston North, then the club competition resumes.

In the first week of the playoffs, the top two will get the week off, while third to eighth spot will play off.

Boys’ High already have top men’s spot locked up, but Mumba Stags, Whanganui Hawkes, That’s Us and Slow Break are all scrapping for second place.
