Top-eight positions confirmed

The jockeying for playoff spots is over in the club basketball competitio­n.

The final round of the regular season was at the Arena on Wednesday night and the order has been found for the men’s quarterfin­als next week.

Undefeated Palmerston North Boys’ High School will take top spot and will play eighth-placed Mumba Bucks in the quarterfin­al.

Slow Break (second) will play Manukura (seventh), That’s us (third) will play Unity (sixth) and Whanganui Hawkes (fourth) will play Mumba Stags (fifth).

There is a week off on September 6 while the secondary schools national qualifiers are on, then playoffs resume on September 13. The women will play one more round, then start semifinals, but the semifinal rankings have already been found.

Top side Mumba Hinds will play fourthplac­ed Linton, and second-placed Palmerston North Girls’ High School will play third-placed Manukura.

Whanganui team The Unknown have pulled out of the women’s competitio­n due to a lack of numbers.

In Wednesday night’s women’s games, Girls’ High beat Linton 67-49 and Manukura upset Mumba Hinds 50-44.

In the men’s games, Slow Break beat Whanganui Hawkes 64-55, That’s Us beat Mumba Stags 71-57, Boys’ High Unity 95-78 and Manukura beat Ohakea 66-41.

Mumba Bucks had the bye.
