Wood: I’ve got a point to prove

-

Chris Wood believes he has a point to prove in the English Premier League and is thrilled to have made an instant impact.

Wood marked his Burnley EPL debut with the equaliser in the 1-1 result with Spurs at Wembley on Monday (NZ time).

He’s set to join his All Whites team mates in Auckland this week for the World Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands. These are busy and important times on either side of the equator for 25-year-old Wood, proud of club and country.

Having never got a start in his time with Leicester City three years ago and then being sold to second division Leeds, it’s now about showing his potential in one of the world’s glamour leagues.

‘‘I definitely feel I do have a point to prove. That’s my feeling and belief,’’ Wood told The Star in Britain.

‘‘I’m sure other people will disagree. That’s for me to prove them wrong. I will just keep working hard and that’s all I can do.’’

Wood didn’t hide his struggles at leicester but is thrilled to have a fresh chance at Burnley.

‘‘It was very frustrating at Leicester. I wanted to be playing, I thought I could have got more game time. But that’s football. The manager picked other players and I had to get more football elsewhere and I moved to Leeds and now here.

‘‘It was nice to get off the mark for Burnley. It’s always talked about how quickly you can do it and thankfully I’ve done that.’’
