-

Rob Dabb has been awarded the Feilding Moas’ top honour of life membership at their prizegiving on Saturday. Congratulations to Rob for the welldeserved honour.

The trophy awarded for the most points accumulated from the handicap series of races saw Lucy Evans take the girls’ grade trophy and Kaden Reynolds the boys’ trophy.

Tessa Webb was the junior girls winner with Andre Le Pine-day the colts award.

The women’s winner was Debra Arnold, with Paul Woodfield taking the men’s.

The trophies for most improved runners went to Arnya Burema and Kaden Reynolds.

David Walters was the club’s person of the year

Their winter series came to an end with their road championship on Saturday.

The road championships were held on Beaconsfield Valley Rd with an out-andback course.

In the boys and girls 3km race, Reuben Duker led in Hayley Cornwall, with each taking out their respective titles.

Reuben and Hayley have had a great battle all season, with line honours seesawing all year and will now look forward to track races over the summer months.

Lachlan Drew, Kaden Reynolds, Bella Ives and Lucy Evans took the minor placings.

In the 5km races, Kaela Drew won the junior women’s race, with the colts race going to Benjamin Wall from Andre Le Pine-day and Liam Wall.

Jo Speary took the women’s title from Jo Coxon and Debra Arnold.

The men’s 10km turned out to be an easy win to AJ Cornwall from Paul Wasley and David Walters.

It’s always good to follow the pursuits of club members and former club members in their other activities.

In the past week, twins Frances and Calean Allen, along with Phoenix Reid, have been representing New Zealand at the Oceania artistic roller skating championships in Australia.

I haven’t seen all the results, but have picked up that Frances won gold medals in both the youth freeskating and youth figure skating events, with Phoenix runner up in the figure skating.

In the quartet event, skating as Surrender, they took the silver medal.

Palmerston North Athletic and Harrier Club’s annual meeting was last week.

George Mcconachy was re-elected as president, Alan Adamson as senior vice president, Brian Curry, Steve Simcox, John Callesen and John Strawbridge as vice presidents.

Vanessa Story (secretary) and Darren Gray (treasurer) were reappointed, with Gray also taking on the harrier club captain role.

Jordan Peters and Pavinee Watson were re-elected as track and field club captains .

Shaun Popow will once again be the children’s section co-ordinator.

It is always refreshing to have new members on the club committee, with Alistair Cadzow and Andrew Davenport joining returning committee members Tara Rolfe, David Lovelock, Callum Mcconachy, Curry, Simcox, Popow and Raewyn and Alan Adamson.

The summer programme is starting to take shape.

Last year when some of the venues for this season’s events were decided, there was still uncertainty over the timeline for the resurfacing of the Palmerston North track.

Although it was our turn to host the second round of the Central teams competition, we asked Whanganui again host the event.

Similarly it was decided that the North Island track and field championships, which have been in Palmerston North since their inception, would be in Masterton.

It has since transpired the Masterton track has suffered damage and is no longer in suitable condition to host this event, so the Palmerston North club have accepted Inglewood’s offer to take on the event on December 8.

Parkrun is a well proven concept that has proven very successful worldwide and is starting to gain traction in New Zealand, so it is great to see Palmerston North is finally getting on the bandwagon.

Parkrun is a free 5km timed event, with the first Palmerston North event on Saturday, October 28.

This will take place on a flat out-and-back course along the beautiful Manawatu¯ riverside walkway.

Congratulations to Kate Southern and Leanne Couch for being instrumental in taking the initiative and getting this underway.
