Club softball gets off to a drizzly start

Manawatu¯ Softball got underway despite the rain on Saturday.

All teams were anxious to get on the diamond and nobody seemed to mind the light drizzle.

With the uncertaint­y of whether play was going ahead there were a number of defaults due to lack of numbers in some of the teams.

Six games were played before the rain set in and the 4.30pm round was called off.

In the premier men, the Dodgers Black beat the Linton Sentinels 12-5.

Linton made a good start scoring five runs in their first two turns at bat, with Dodgers unable to score. However, those five runs were the only runs they were able to score as the Dodgers found a thier form. They had five hits and were aided by seven walks in the next three innings saw which saw the Dodgers charge.

Linton Sentinels out-hit Dodgers Black by five hits to four.

The first automatic home run of

the season was hit by Linton’s Maurice Barber as he put the ball over the left field fence, scoring three runs.

The second game of the day saw the reformed Raiders team take on Dodgers Black for their second of their double header with the Dodgers winning 14-8.

The Dodgers made a good start scoring seven runs.

The Raiders replied with three of their own as they kept in touch all the way. They trailed 10-5 at the bottom of the third innings.

The Dodgers pulled away in the next two innings scoring a further four runs.

No women’s games were completed.
