Mixed fortunes for Bluesox

Bluesox came out on top of Linton Sentinels 4-1 in the feature men’s game in the club softball competitio­n at Colquhoun Park in Palmerston North on Saturday.

In what was the second game of Bluesox’s doublehead­er, after a tight loss, they made a good start to a close game, when Bluesox’s lead batter Davin Harlen scored a home run.

No more runs were scored until the fourth inning, when Hohepa Te Weri scored on a hit to give Bluesox a 2-0 lead.

It wasn’t until the seventh inning, that any more runs were scored when Bluesox batters strung three hits together to score two more runs.

Linton could only reply with one run by the end of the game.

Bluesox’s pitcher Bryan Taiaroa only gave up three hits to contain the Sentinels batters.

Earlier, in the first premier men’s game, Dodgers Black had a big 12-1 win over Raiders..

Raiders took the early lead and were ahead at the bottom of the third inning 1-0.

At the top of the fourth Dodgers strung five hits together including an over-the-fence home run by Daniel Hita.

In the fifth and sixth innings Dodgers again put bat to ball with three more home runs, two of them over the fence – one by Shane Mcgrath and the other by Grant Christian. Raiders had no reply before the end of the game.

The top batter for Dodgers was Christian with four hits from four turns at bat, two being home runs.

Huia Chiefs closed out a tight 2-1 win over Bluesox.

The score was being tied at 1-all right up to the fourth inning, when Huia’s Wayne Norman put bat to ball and hit a double to right field.

He was scored on an error, giving Huia a 2-1 lead which they held for the rest of the game.

The best batter for Chiefs was Gareth Greenfield, with two hits from three turns at bat.

There were some high scores in the women’s games, as Bluesox beat Score-a-bulls 15-0 as the mercy rule came into play.

This game was dominated by the Bluesox pitcher Tiyo Blake Ohlson, who pitched a no hitter.

Bluesox recorded 14 safe hits to score 15 runs ,with the game ending in the third inning with the mercy rule.

Ohlson was also prominent with the bat with two hits from two turns at bat.

The second women’s game went to tie breaker where Huia Tigers edged Bluesox 14-13 in the second of their double header.

Tigers got off to a good start, scoring eight runs in the first five innings and Bluesox replied with five.

In the seventh and final inning, Bluesox came to life and scored seven runs and recorded six hits.

Huia replied with two runs, one a home run by Charmaine Farquhar. At the bottom of the seventh it was tied up at 12-all.

Going into the tie breaker inning, Huia scored two runs, taking their score to 14, with Bluesox only able to add one run and with loaded bases no more runs were scored.

Katrina Taiaroa was top batter for Bluesox with four hits from five turns at bat. For Huia, Charmaine Farquhar was their best batter with three hits from four turns at bat.

Bramac Aces thrashed the

Linton Storm 17-1.

In the first inning both teams scored one run each and it looked like it was going to be a close game.

But in the second, third and fourth innings, the Aces scored a massive 16 runs, with Linton unable to score.

The game ended in the fourth inning with the mercy rule applied.

Bramac Aces pitcher Mary Ireland dominated the Linton batters, taking six strikeouts and only giving up four hits.

Ireland also was Bramac’s top batter, with three hits from four turns at bat.
