Bluesox women pile on the runs

Bluesox women ran out 27-14 winners over the Linton Storm in a high-scoring feature game in the latest round of club softball at Colquhoun Park on Saturday.

Both teams were hitting the ball hard and at the bottom of the fourth inning, Bluesox were ahead 12-8.

Both teams again recorded safe hits, with Bluesox pulling ahead 22-15.

Bluesox pulled further away in the sixth inning, scoring five more run to take their score to 27. Linton had no answer to this and the game ended with Bluesox winning 27-14.

Linton’s Tara Turfrey and Ruth Tietie both hit home runs. Jessica Welford was Bluesox’s best with four hits from six turns at bat.

The premier men had the early time slots to allow for a top-of-thetable reserve men’s grade clash between Wanganui Braves and Levin United, where Braves won 8-5.

First in the premier men Bluesox beat Dodgers Black 7-1.

Bluesox took the lead at the bottom of the third inning 3-1. No runs were scored by either team until the sixth inning, when Bluesox strung three hits together and scored four runs to win.

Next Huia Chiefs thrashed played Raiders 11-0.

The Chiefs took the lead in the first inning, with Raiders not able to handle the pitching of Kelly Dyason.

Huia went further into the lead in the fourth inning, taking their score to 11. No Raiders batters were able to cross home plate.

Huia’s Reihana Haronga and Lachlie Hook both hit home runs.

In the women’s games Huia Tigers had a 27-14 win over-score-a-bulls.

Tigers shot out to a huge lead in the first inning, scoring 11 runs. Bulls managed four safe hits to score four of their own.

In the second inning Huia scored another 10 runs, including a huge home run by Karla Henson.

Bulls came back at them again, scoring another four. In the fourth inning, Huia scored another six runs, including a home run, this time by Reiko Baugham.

Bulls managed another six runs, but it was not enough and the game ended with Huia winning.

In the first of their doublehead­er, Bramac Aces beatrangit­ikei Rebels 16-0.

On the mound for Aces for the first time was Lua Matealona, who pitched a no hitter and recorded seven strikeouts. Hiria Mohi was Bramac’s best batter with two hits from three turns at bat, including a lovely home run.

Bramac Aces beat Feilding

SPC 11-7.

This was a close game with the score 2-all at the bottom of the second inning.

In third inning Feilding took the lead 5-4. In the fourth inning Bramac’s batters came to life and scored five runs, taking the lead 9-6.

Bramac held Feilding scoreless for the next two innings, but not to be outdone by her little sister, Bramac’s Aareta Mohi hit a huge run to left field, taking the score to 10.

At the top of the seventh, Feilding scored one more run. Aces also scored one more and the final score was 11-7 to Bramac .

Sharnelle Miller was Feilding’s best batter with three hits from four turns at bat. Aces’ Jamie Hudson recorded three hits from four turns at bat.
