Car crashes into train

A Reefton man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a power pole on the West Coast and then into the path of a train. Ward Ian Magon died near the intersection of State Highway 7 and Maimai Rd, near Reefton, about 3am on Saturday. The 53-year-old was the only person in the car. Police said it appeared the impact of hitting the power pole caused the car to end up on the train tracks, where it was then hit by a train.
