Rampant batters put the heat on

With extremely hot conditions at Colquhoun Park, a full round of Manawatu¯ club softball was played on Saturday.

The Huia Chiefs opened the round with a 5-4 win over Bluesox.

Neither team managed to score a run until the fourth innings when Bluesox put bat to ball with three safe-hits to score four runs.

The Chiefs’ reply came when they too strung a couple of hits together.

There were no more runs by either team until the seventh and final innings when the Bluesox pitcher put a couple on base with walks and with a great bunt by Gareth Greenfield and a safe hit to left field by Cameron Scott.

Huia Chiefs scored four runs to take out the game.

Linton Sentinels beat Raiders 8-5.

The Raiders made a great start scoring four runs with the army boys having no answer.

Then Linton started to fire with the bat and over the next four innings scored eight runs.the Raiders could not add to their great start only managing one more run.

In the second of their double header, the Raiders fell 8-1 tododgers Black.

No runs were scored by the Raiders until the fourth innings when Ben Sloane crossed home plate after making base on a safe hit.

The Dodgers, in the meantime, were scoring every innings.

At the bottom of the fifth innings the game ended when the Dodgers scored the runs required to end the game with the run ahead rule.

The only women’s game to go passed the required three innings was Feilding SPC’S 10-3 over Huia Tigers.

Feilding crept ahead in the third innings scoring four runs with four safe-hits.

Huia managed to score a couple in the fourth innings when they strung together three hits.

In the fifth innings, the Tigers managed one more run, while Feilding scored the three runs they required to end the game..

Shannon Simpson and Rowena Cooper were Huia’s best batters with two hits from three turns at bat.

Bluesox hammered Score-abulls played 12-1.

Bluesox recorded 12 safe hits including a home run by Anita Teamo.

Best of the Bluesox batters was Anita Teamo with three hits from three turns at bat.

Next up the Bramac Aces beat Huia Tigers 18-2 in the second on their double headers.

Bramac made a strong start scoring 12 runs in the first two innings.

Huia replied with two, one of these being a superb home run by Rowena Cooper.

Third innings and Bramac piled on another six runs including a home run by Mary Ireland. Tigers had no answer and the game finished with Aces winning 18-2.

Ireland was Bramac’s best batter with three hits from three turns at bat.

The final game saw Linton Storm play Rangitikei Rebels.

The Storm ran away in the first three innings scoring 12 runs.

Rangitikei managed to two runs but had no answer for the rest of the game as the Linton ladies continued their strong batting to score a further six runs.

The highlight of the game was two lovely home runs by Linton, one by Larnz Blackman and the other by Bridget Lake.
