Boys’ High on the board at tournament
The Palmerston North Boys’ High School first XI cricket team is on the board at the national secondary schools finals in Palmerston North.
Boys’ High beat Hutt International Boys’ High School by seven wickets at Fitzherbert Park yesterday to give them a win and a loss after two rounds, having lost to Tauranga Boys’ College by two wickets on Monday.
HIBS batted first yesterday and posted a meagre 123 all out in 45.4 overs.
Boys’ High bowler Jack Harris got them off to a good start by taking 3-10 from eight overs.
Spinner Finn Martin took 3-11 from 10 overs and Rishabh De took 2-28.
Nikunj Patel top scored for HIBS with 26.
The Boys’ High openers then made a steady start to their chase as Thomas Walshe scored 13 and Tom Tremain 20.
But then No 4 Bryn Wilson made 34 not out and James Stratton 46 not out as they reached 127-3 in 29.2 overs.
In the other games, Tauranga Boys’ College (206) beat Otago Boys’ High School (182) by 24 runs and Christchurch Boys’ High School (295-8) beat Rosmini College (266-9) by 29 runs.
Today, Boys’ High will play Otago, Tauranga will play Rosmini and Christchurch will play HIBS.
■ Central Districts under-19 lost by 27 runs to Canterbury at the national under-19 tournament at Lincoln yesterday.
That was despite Horowhenua Kapiti seamer Fraser Bartholomew taking 5-46 in Canterbury’s first innings of 200-9.
In CD’S chase, opener Bayley Wiggins (Hawke’s Bay) scored 42 and No 5 Kelsey Fahey Horowhenua-kapiti scored 50, but they could only reach 173 before being bowled out in the 48th over.
CD, who have had a win and a loss, are due to play Northern Districts today.
