Chiefs defeat Dodgers Black

Huia Chiefs slugged Dodgers Black out of the park, during another day’s scorching men’s Manawatu¯ club softball.

Dodgers could not fire with the bat on Saturday and only scored two safe hits in the whole game as pitcher Kelly Dyason kept them well contained.

In the first innings, the first batter for Chiefs slammed a home run to right field. The Chiefs continued their strong batting display and scored runs every innings, running out winners 9-0.

Their top batter was AJ Dyason who had three hits from three turns at bat, including bouncing one over the fence. The last men’s game of the day was a low-scoring game between Blue Sox and Raiders, which Blue Sox took out 4-1.

Blue Sox took the lead in the first innings, scoring two runs. They scored another two runs in the third innings to take their score to four.

No further runs were scored until the seventh innings, when Raiders fought and managed to score when they strung two safe hits together. Blue Sox pitcher Bryan Taiaroa struck out 14 of the 24 batters he faced.

First up for the women were Bramac Aces and Blue Sox and it turned into a one-way Aces’ rout, as they won 16-5. Bottom of the first innings and the score was tight at 2-1 to the Aces.

The Aces batters came alive in the second innings and scored five runs, including a home run by Milcah Xkenjik. In the third innings, Blue Sox kept Aces scoreless.

Top of the fourth and Blue Sox strung five hits together, taking the score to 7-5. Aces batters powered on another six safe hits and scored seven runs to end the game with the run-ahead rule applying. Xkenjik showed the way for Bramac, with two hits from three turns at bat, including a home run and a three-base hit.

Next up, Huia Tigers played Rangitı¯kei Rebels, beating them 20-11 in a high-scoring game. Huia Tigers’ batters recorded a massive 18 safe hits.

Rangitikei Rebels did not lie down and managed to score 11 runs. The game ended in the fourth innings, with the run-ahead rule applying.

Jazz Howe was the Rebels’ best batter, with two hits from three turns at bat. Huia’s Charmaine Farqhar had three hits from five turns at bat, including a home run.

The final women’s game was another high-scoring one, where Feilding SPC beat Rangitı¯kei Rebels 19-10.

Feilding came back from a huge first-innings deficit, where the Rebels took the lead when they piled on seven runs to Feilding’s zero. In the third innings, Feilding started to put bat to ball and scored eight runs, including a home run by Holly Antrobus.

Cassie George was Feilding’s best batter with four safe hits from five turns at bat, including a home run.
