Palmerston North arts ambassador Shaun Kay has doubled his workload, opening new business Pineapple and re-opening Groovylicious after a two-year hiatus.
Groovylicious reopened this week in its new Coleman Mall premises and Pineapple, Kay’s new venture, has also opened its doors on Taonui St.
Groovylicious is a retro boutique that Kay said also showcases local artists.
‘‘It’s the same old Groovylicious, but it’s just been twinged. We are still about locals being local with art for sale and an exhibition wall that will change monthly.’’
Around the corner is Kay’s ‘‘Pineapple headquarters’’ where Groovylicious Costume Hire, previously Abbey Costume Hire, will be run by Emma Greback, and Kay will organise festivals and events within the arts community.
‘‘Also in there will be Benji Pritchard doing his social enterprise work and Retro Rehab, that will hold art workshops.’’
Kay will also be working once a week for the Palmerston North City Council, giving him a ‘‘foot in the door of the mothership’’.
‘‘I’ll still be flitting between everything like I always have, and it’s really cool because it ties everything in. Snails: Artist Run Space is right by us at Pineapple and they do their thing, which works in with us.’’
