Review at law firm
Public service troubleshooter Dame Margaret Bazley will lead a review into law firm Russell Mcveagh. The firm’s chairman Malcolm Crotty said the external review would look at incidents of sexual harassment within the company. Dame Margaret will be assisted by a woman lawyer yet to be announced. Some of the incidents include inappropriate sexual behaviour of staff having sex with law students in a boardroom. Russell Mcveagh has said it happened 10 years ago, was consensual, and the staff involved were reprimanded.
Finance spokeswoman
MP Amy Adams has been chosen by new National Party leader Simon Bridges as the new Opposition finance spokeswoman. Bridges’ first appointment handed the coveted portfolio to his closest rival in the recent leadership contest. Adams will replace outgoing MP Steven Joyce, who also ran an unsuccessful bid to replace Bill English as head of the party. Adams will also jump up the rankings to third place in the caucus.
Two found dead
Two bodies were found at a central Auckland address on Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to the Grey Lynn property about 3.15pm and found two people dead at the scene, said Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin. Yesterday, he said police were ‘‘currently working to establish what has happened’’. Police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths. A nearby resident said: ‘‘It’s a big, run-down halfway house and the police are often there.’’
New MP
She has already completed her parliamentary induction, after being elected last year, and now National Party MP Nicola Willis will be joining the ranks for real this time. Willis was unlucky to be booted out after special votes were tallied following last year’s general election but will now replace outgoing MP Steven Joyce. Willis, 37, ran as a list MP in the Wellington Central electorate.
