Feilding sneaks draw with Napier
A win over Napier Boys’ High School has slipped through the fingers of the Feilding High School first XV.
Feilding and Napier drew 26-all at Feilding on Sunday, but that was after Feilding had led 19-0 at halftime with the wind behind them. In the second half Napier capitalised on Feilding errors to roar back into the match. Napier led 26-19 late in the game, but workhorse flanker James Bolton crashed over for Feilding to level the scores.
Feilding’s kicking game put them in a good position in the first half with three tries, one a 95-metre intercept effort from second five-eighth Faleseu Tauailoto.
In the second half, Feilding made mistakes at three kickoffs and gave away a string of penalties to let Napier back in to score four tries of their own. Feilding again had a damaging scrum, powered by prop Leo Wiki, and they had good games from hooker Adam Thomas and lock TK Howden.
Feilding are away against Wanganui Collegiate School tomorrow in what doubles as a Central North Island competition match and a Hurricanes co-ed knockout game.
❚ The Palmerston North Boys’ High School first XV were beaten 25-17 by King’s College in Auckland on Saturday. Boys’ High started the game strongly and led 7-3 late in the half, but they let King’s in for a try on the break, then three more after halftime.
Boys’ High are away against Rotorua Boys’ High School this weekend in the Super 8 competition.
