Manukura, Massey still on top

Normal service has resumed for the top two teams in Manawatu¯ premier club netball, Massey and Manukura Black.

Manukura Black beat Rahui

68-52 at the Arena on Tuesday night, as the club competitio­n resumed after a three-week break for school holidays and national rep tournament­s.

It was a close game between two young sides, but once Manukura had a lead, they kept extending it and by the end Rahui couldn’t keep up.

Manukura held a six-point lead for most of the first half and were up 32-26 at halftime. But they had a strong third quarter, scoring 20 goals, which was too much for Rahui to keep up with.

Feilding A2 put up a good fight in their 58-47 loss to leaders Massey A1.

Feilding led after the first quarter, but then Massey took a 27-22 lead at halftime. Massey held just a two-goal lead at three-quartertim­e.

Feilding were playing well and made it hard for Massey to get into the game.

Massey didn’t have a vintage night, but blew out the score in the final quarter to secure the win.

Feilding A1 carried on their revival with a 52-41 win over

Massey A2.

Feilding looked good with their work through court and once they had a lead they kept building on it.

Feilding led 28-17 at halftime.

Manukura Red were too strong for College Old Girls, winning 69-39. Manukura scored well in every quarter of the game and were up 18-8 after the first quarter and 30-18 at halftime.

College could only score six goals in the final stanza to Manukura’s 23. College scored 15 goals in the third quarter, but otherwise their best quarter was 10 goals. Next week: Rahui v Massey A1, 6pm; Feilding A1 v Manukura Red, 6pm; Manukura Black v Feilding A2, 7.30pm; COG v Massey A2, 7.30pm.
