Final tickets gone by lunchtime

- Netball

If you were wanting to go to the ANZ Premiership netball grand final tomorrow week, prepare to be disappointed – the small Palmerston North venue sold out within an hour of tickets being released.

Central Pulse will host the final at Fly Palmy Arena, against either the consistent Southern Steel or resurgent Canterbury Tactix.

Grand final tickets went on sale at midday yesterday, and were gone by 1pm.

Fly Palmy Arena will host the final as the Pulse’s more usual home venues, TSB Arena in Wellington and Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua, were unavailable due to prior bookings.

There will be a capacity crowd in Palmerston North, of 2300, while TSB Arena is listed as seating 5655, and Te Rauparaha Arena has a capacity of 3000.

Netball New Zealand head of events and international Kate Agnew said she had expected tickets to be in hot demand.

‘‘The Pulse have seen tremendous support from their home fans this season so we were always expecting this game to be packed out,’’ she said.

Tickets were still available for the elimination final between the Steel and Tactix in Invercargill, on Wednesday.

Pulse captain Katrina Grant has said she is unconcerned about the final going to Palmerston North.

‘‘We’re not flying. It’s definitely just a roadie. It’s only what an hour and a half, two hours? It’s only a drive up the road,’’ Grant said.

It might be beneficial for the team to stay together in the leadup to the biggest game in franchise history, she said.
