❚ I’ve been reading The Holocaust:
a new history, by Laurence Rees. The nature of hate speeches in Germany began long before the rise of the National Socialists with well-educated, usually moderate people. The result in the long run was devastating for native-born German Jews. In my opinion the political and social views of Don Brash towards Ma¯ori are dangerous in regard of such matters. Robin Dunn
❚ Surely Peter Lampp’s netball monologue was typically satirical, slinging off at Wellingtonians upset at having to travel all the way to Palmy, as in ‘‘Outer Mongolia’’. Get it? Netball NZ did a fine job of running the final.
❚ If there is a Palmerston town in
the South Island, why not call ours Palmerston City?
❚ I see George Heagney covered the city council meeting on Monday. Is there anything that man can’t do?
