❚ I’ve been reading The Holocaust:

a new history, by Laurence Rees. The nature of hate speeches in Germany began long before the rise of the National Socialists with well-educated, usually moderate people. The result in the long run was devastatin­g for native-born German Jews. In my opinion the political and social views of Don Brash towards Ma¯ori are dangerous in regard of such matters. Robin Dunn

❚ Surely Peter Lampp’s netball monologue was typically satirical, slinging off at Wellington­ians upset at having to travel all the way to Palmy, as in ‘‘Outer Mongolia’’. Get it? Netball NZ did a fine job of running the final.

❚ If there is a Palmerston town in

the South Island, why not call ours Palmerston City?

❚ I see George Heagney covered the city council meeting on Monday. Is there anything that man can’t do?

❚ Labour and NZ First are running the country into more debt and increasing taxes. This Government has no idea how to run the country. Simon – a Pam supporter
