Baby born between Bledisloes

- Marc Hinton

Codie Taylor’s workrate has been off the charts as he’s juggled his two main jobs in life.

The All Blacks hooker has had a busy week.

He won another Bledisloe matchup against the old enemy in Sydney last Saturday night, dashed home to Christchurch for the birth of son Luca, and made it back in time to Auckland to prepare fully for the Wallabies rematch at Eden Park tomorrow night.

But as the 27-year-old, 33-test No 2 was only too happy to attest to, he had the easy role in an eventful few days in his frantic life.

‘‘All credit goes to my partner Lucy, she’s done an unreal job to hold off and I suppose keep her legs crossed for a week while I was in Sydney,’’ said Taylor to much amusement among the media corps at the team hotel in Auckland.

Taylor revealed that his ability to juggle the two important tasks came fairly and squarely down to excellent planning.

‘‘We worked out if we could have the baby early this week I could come back [to Auckland] for the test and be home for a week next week to help out at home.’’

He also revealed that he had received firm instructions that he need not start planning for the next such tight turnaround.

‘‘It’s pretty special to have a son now. We’ve got one of each, and we’re pretty happy. Apparently we’re done, according to Lucy.’’

And for the record, both mum and baby are in good health after their big day.

‘‘Baby is at home, everything’s good and I’m just a proud dad.’’

Not to mention a busy one.
