What footprints will you leave when you are gone?

-

We are a generous bunch in New Zealand, each year we give over $150 million in bequests to over 750 charities in New Zealand, and research indicates that figure is on the rise, according to Philanthropy NZ. So why do we choose to give? A simple answer would be to say that if feels good, however it’s also a chance to make a difference in the lives of future generations. Most bequests are made by ordinary hard working New Zealanders. It’s not just for the wealthy or the famous but everyday Kiwis who want to make a positive difference to their community after they’ve gone. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our visionary supporters of the Cancer Society Manawatu, who have already made bequests. Thank you. We are the leading non-government organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence of cancer, and ensuring the best cancer care – Free of charge. The Cancer Society does not receive any direct government funding. Our work is enabled solely through the generosity of our Manawatu community. This year the Manawatu Centre needs to raise $1.4 million to continue to provide hope and guidance to those living with cancer and to help fund ground-breaking research into better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. “Many patients and their families tell me that they have found the help of the Cancer Society has been of great assistance and support for them in dealing with the new, complex and often frightening experiences that can surround a cancer diagnosis and its treatment. I have had association with the Cancer Society for over 20 years now, and I have consistently found it to have an integral and vital role in cancer care. I continue to support it and its work wholeheartedly.” Dr Garry Forgeson, Medical Oncologist, Midcentral Health; President, Central Districts Division, Cancer Society of New Zealand. If you are considering supporting us through a gift in your Will, no matter what the size of the gift – you will be helping people in your community to cope with and overcome cancer. Please visit www.cancernz.org.nz or phone our bequest coordinator Steph Strahan on 06 356 4011 for more information. “To my grandkids, I leave photo albums. To the people with cancer, I leave hope”. A gift in your will can provide care, comfort and hope for people with cancer. Please consider leaving a gift in your will to the Cancer Society.
