Kiwis must learn from English lesson – prop

-

Senior forward Jesse Bromwich says losing is ‘‘a rubbish feeling’’ the Kiwis don’t want to experience again.

The Melbourne Storm prop said the Kiwis would learn from their errors after buttoning off against England to lose the first test, 18-16 in Hull yesterday.

‘‘Test match footy is 80-minute football. I don’t care who you are playing against – if you play for the full 80 you are always a chance.

‘‘If you lapse for five or 10 minutes, the game is gone.’’

Bromwich said letting the game slip against England would be ‘‘a lesson for our younger boys’’.

‘‘It’s a very young team. They will learn from this and hopefully will remember what it feels.

‘‘This is a rubbish feeling. You don’t want this again.’’

Bromwich, 29, a NRL winner with the Storm and an ex-kiwis captain, said great teams prided themselves on their defence.

He felt while ‘‘a couple of [England’s] tries were lucky, if you ask me’’, the Kiwis were made to pay for some lapses.

‘‘At the moment, we are not defending as well as we could.

‘‘I’m sure Madge [Kiwis coach Michael Maguire] will have a few areas to work on.’’

Interchange forward Martin Taupau felt the Kiwis’ defeat came down to ‘‘execution’’.

He said they went out determined to ‘‘stick to our game plan, but I think we went away from it a little bit’’.

Taupau said the Kiwis set out to apply pressure to England after ‘‘we did that two weeks ago against the Australian team’’.

‘‘We did it in patches [in Hull], but we just took our foot off the pedal,’’ he said.

But Taupau did not believe the Kiwis required a massive fix to win the second test in Liverpool next weekend.
