BOP on top at tournament

Bay of Plenty came out on top at the New Zealand Indian Sports Associatio­n cricket tournament in Palmerston North.

Bay of Plenty A won all four of their games at the Twenty20 tournament at Manawaroa Park at the weekend, beating BOP B by 23 runs, Central Districts B by seven wickets, CD A by eight wickets and Wellington by four wickets.

In their first game, BOP A scored 165-5 batting first, then bowled BOP B out for 142.

In the second game, BOP A bowled CD B out for 66, then reached 67-3.

Against CD A, BOP A restricted CD A to 100-9, then reached 101-2.

Then in the game between the two unbeaten sides, Wellington were bowled out for 105, then BOP A reached 105-6.

BOP A had Northern Districts batsman Bharat Popli in their side.

CD A beat CD B by nine wickets, but lost by 47 runs against Wellington, by two wickets against BOP B and lost by eight wickets to BOP A.

Against Wellington, Wellington batted first and scored 200-8, then CD A could only muster 153-7.

In their second game, CD B batted first and scored 133-6, before CD A scored 135-1.

Against BOP B, CD A were bowled out for 103, then BOP B reached 104-8.

United premier one players Akhil Pant and Manpreet Singh were in the CD A side.

CD B had four losses at the tournament, going down by seven wickets to BOP B, CD A, BOP A and Wellington by nine wickets.

Against BOP B, CD B scored 85 all out, then BOP B reached 87-3. Against Wellington, CD B scored 123-4, then Wellington scored 124-1. Wellington had three wins and a loss. BOP B had one win and three losses.
