❚ Mayor Grant Smith is quoted in an article Feb 7 that the council had a good working relationship with Rangita¯ne. Therefore there is no logical reason for him and our council to vote in the proposed allocation of seats to Ma¯ori on 5 of our council committees.

❚ Is it global warming or out of control fires that are a load of rubbish? The first contributes to the second surely.

❚ Toyota had $265 billion revenue last year, does the mayor really think they couldn’t afford $391k? He was played, now wants to hike rates to pay for housing developments instead of the property developers? He didn’t like Census NZ population figures for PN so commissioned his own.

Perhaps they should change their status to ‘‘refugee’’ then they will be welcomed with open arms and can carry on what they’re currently doing.
