At training to fix defensive woes

-

defenders have rushed out of the line, wanting to make a big tackle, but in doing so they’ve left gaps in the defence.

‘‘When you’re under a bit of pressure and there’s a lot of points being scored, at times people want to make a difference, go out there and do things.

‘‘Sometimes it goes against what you’re trying to do, which is obviously trying to stick together as a group and staying tight and doing it as a collective, rather than an individual.

‘‘At times those things go against what we’re trying to do. There’s always effort there but it’s just not collective effort as a group.’’

The Warriors have scored more than 20 points just twice in their last seven games.

They are capable of scoring nice tries, but they are a team lacking confidence and Blair believes it’s the defensive issues, which are spilling into other aspects of their game.

‘‘Defensive attitude, it’s a hard job to do but it’s about turning up for each other, looking after your mate next to you,’’ Blair said.

‘‘When times are tough and you have to defend your line three or four times, it’s about worrying about what that job is at that moment, rather than thinking about the next job or whatever’s after that. It’s about staying in the moment and getting the jobs done.

‘‘If we can sort out our defence, we might be able to come out here on the weekend and try and turn things around as a group, because there needs to be something in these last two games.

‘‘The Roosters, last week’s game (against the Sharks), we leaked them way too many points.

‘‘It’s been tough, the boys were down but we’ve come in today with a defensive mindset to go out there and work together as a group and try to get the job done.’’

For the game against the Rabbitohs, Agnatius Paasi, who’ll make his 100th NRL appearance, comes into the starting team at prop, with Lachlan Burr dropping to the interchange bench.

Kearney has also made a change to the halves for the final home game of the season, with Kodi Nikorima back in the halves alongside Blake Green, while Chanel Harris-tavita will wear the No 17 jersey.
