Pre-loved fashion for Feilding

-

Environmentally conscious shoppers will be spoilt for choice at a secondhand clothing market next month.

The Love Me 2 Times Market secondhand and upcycled fashion market will be held at the Feilding Civic Centre on October 5. The stallholders include charities from Feilding and Palmerston North and people looking to pare back their wardrobes.

Market organiser and environmental scientist Raelene Mercer, who describes herself as an avid op-shopper, said she was inspired to organise the market after seeing people embrace secondhand fashion.

‘‘Whether you want to look fabulous on a budget, or you’re looking to reduce your environmental footprint, pre-loved fashion might just be the answer.

‘‘That old-fashioned perception of secondhand equals second best is definitely changing.’’

The market has room for 28 stalls and Mercer has filled close to half of them. She wants the market to have a boutique feel to it, with high-quality clothing and welldecorated stalls.

Mercer said she had her own ‘‘side hustle’’ selling vintage clothing online and at markets. She hopes people might feel inspired to look beyond chain fashion brands more often after visiting the market.

‘‘It’s becoming the new black to wear items that were ethically made, or have been re-purposed. It’s fun and it challenges your creativity to create your own unique style.’’

Mercer would like people to step outside the box at the market and try on items they may have shied away from – she said the main point of fashion was for it to be fun.

People wanting to run a stall at the event can contact Mercer at loveme2timesmarket@gmail.com. The event is cash-only.
