- Sam Phillips

The NRL has handed Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-carr A$50,000 fines and Nathan Cleary a A$10,000 fine after the star trio were caught flouting social distancing rules.

Addo-carr, Mitchell and 10 other men were caught ignoring lockdown protocols on a hunting and camping trip on the midnorth coast at Mitchell’s property near Taree, posting photographs and videos of the trip on social media.

The former New South Wales Origin team-mates were on

Monday fined A$1000 by police for ignoring social distancing measures and Addo-carr remains under investigation for possible criminal action regarding his use of firearms on Mitchell’s property.

The pair have also been punished by the NRL. They were handed A$50,000 fines – 60 per cent of which is suspended for the rest of the season – and a suspended ban of one game.

Cleary, who was yesterday outed as another star flouting protocols on Anzac Day with his sister’s friends, has been handed a A$10,000 fine.

He will also have a one-game suspension hanging over his head for the rest of the season.

Newcastle player Tyronne Roberts-davis has been hit with the same punishment as Cleary for his part in the trip to Taree.

All four players have five days to respond to the breach notices before a final decision on their punishments is made.

‘‘The players have a responsibility to the game and community. It is important that, in these challenging times, we all have to work together to combat Covid-19 and compliance with public health orders is a critical requirement,’’ ARL Commission chair Peter V’landys said.
