Feilding start title defence strongly
Feilding have made a solid start to the defence of their Manawatu¯ premier club crown, with a 64-35 win over Palmerston North Girls’ High School on the opening night of the competition.
Last year’s winners were too strong in their game at the Arena, Palmerston North, on Tuesday night, the first week of the new premier competition, which now has premier and premier reserves grades indoors. Feilding dominated most of the game, although the schoolgirls, who have new combinations this year, won the second quarter to trail just 26-20 at halftime after being down 19-8 after the first quarter.
After halftime, Feilding kicked on and won the second half, 38-15.
Feilding’s best shooter was Kara Adrole, who slotted 29 goals from 38 attempts. Tessamarsh shot 24 from
37.
Girls’ High’s main shooter was Madeleine Williams, with 19 from
27.
The experienced Manukura Red beat their club-mates and schoolgirl side Manukura Black 51-42.
After an even first quarter, Manukura Red, the old girls’ team, shot out to a five-goal lead at halftime and were too strong in the second half.
For Red, Diaz TepaniaStrickland shot 24 from 39 and player-coach Renee Matoe landed 20 from 28.
For Black, Janaya Preece shot 16 from 21, Pypah Hailwood 13 from 16 and Maia Karena-barrett 13 from 19.
Massey pulled away in the second half for a 51-43 win over Ra¯hui. The game was level 14-all after the first quarter and Massey led just 28-27 at halftime, but Ra¯hui couldn’t keep up in the second spell.
Keaghan Seymour shot 20 from 24 for Massey, with Emily Autagavaia shooting 16 from 17 and Kamie Veikoso 15 from 16.
Ra¯hui’s main shooter was Maila Muliaga, with 30 from 33.
In the premier reserve competition, Collegeold Girls beat newcomers Kia Toa 52-35, while Feilding A2 edged Ra¯hui Reserves 47-46.
Feilding Reserves had a close 46-44 win over Masseya2.
