Centrepoint theatre announces lineup

- Staff reporter

Centrepoint theatre has released its lineup of shows for next year.

The season begins on February 4, with The Ma¯ori Sidesteps and their belly laughing, thought-provoking and sing along performance.

It delivers a fresh and enlightening perspective on the evolution of Ma¯ori entertainers.

The show, originally scheduled for this year and rescheduled due to Covid-19 restrictions, promises soulful harmonies, satirical skits and hilarity.

Potted Potter is returning to the stage for two weeks, from February 27 to March 12.

It is the perfect opportunity for people who missed out this year to experience the hilarious and magical adventure of the show.

Roger Hall’s new play, Winding Up, makes its debut in Palmerston North from March 27 to May 2. It is produced by Centrepoint and Christchurch’s The Court Theatre.

It is a heart-warming Kiwi comedy, featuring Mark Hadlow and Darien Takle.

The Complete History of Palmerston North is on stage from July 24 to August 22. It was commissioned by the Palmerston North City Council as part of the city’s 150-year anniversary celebrations.

Through song, satire and silliness, the deconstruction of Palmerston North’s history, written by Gregory Cooper, promises to have patrons in stitches.

Centrepoint general manager Kate Louise Elliott said the show was the perfect way to celebrate.

Cringe Worthy 80s ends the season, as a blast from the past that is equal parts nostalgic and hilarious.

It takes you back to New Zealand in the 1980s and is a feast of contagious, Kiwi songs, served with a side of spandex and cheesy comedy.

‘‘If you enjoyed the original Cringe Worthy in 2020, then you will love this,’’ Elliott said.

‘‘From the hilarious, feel-good stylings of Thema¯ori Sidesteps, to the righteous musical-whirlwind that is Cringeworthy 80s, we’re so proud to present your new 2021 season.’’

Sunday Script Sessions, Vintage Hitchcock, Penny Ashton’s Olive Copperbottom, The Basement Company’s Move and Little Red Riding Hood will also feature on the stage throughout the year.

Tickets are available through Centrepoint’s box office and website.
