The karaoke has fallen silent but there’s a chance to keep amemento from the nowclosed Palmerston North restaurant, with an auction on Saturday. It’s on from noon to 5pm at 16th January, 12pm to 5pm at China Inn.

George St to host retro-inspired fair

Come along to George St on January 24 and immerse yourself in everything retro. The George Street Retro Fair will pay tribute to old times, with live music, exciting performanc­es and vintage stalls. The day, which starts at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm, will run alongside the Retro Ride – a popular event for anyone keen to dress up vintage and ride their retro bike. Funds raised will go directly to Arohanui Hospice.

Big Dig shore to please crowds

Take the family to Himatangi this anniversar­y weekend for the annual More FM Himatangi Beach Big Dig. Stewart’s Mitre 10 Mega has sponsored the event with hundreds of giveaways, with the main event kicking off at 12pm on January 23. Tickets cost $4 and will be available at the beach from 11am. A little dig will also be staged prior to the main event, for those under five to find their own buried treasure.

Marton annual concert

The Marton Country Music Festival is on this weekend. Performanc­es will begin with a meet-and-greet tonight, followed by a full day of performanc­es tomorrow. Saturday is jam-packed with an open mic session, featured artists and a show-stopping finale in the evening. Sunday finishes the weekend off with another open mic. Concert-goers are welcome to camp on site the entire weekend, with unpowered sites available for $15. Day passes are also available with prices varying. Kids under 16 are free if accompanie­d by an adult. The concert will be held at Sir Jamesmemor­ial Park, Rira Street, Marton.
